This spell gives gain knowledge of the affected creature's plane of origin and how to get there.

You learn the name of the plane the creature comes from, and the planar traits of that plane. You also find out:

  • the location of the closest permanent portal to that plane, if there is one
  • how to find that plane in the Astral Plane, which halves the time required to travel the Astral Plane to it
  • the material components required to use spells to get to that plane, such as the type of metal rod needed for the plane shift spell
