Big Day

Yesterday was a Big Day for our Big Girl. Things started off in a fairly normal manner: Daddy took Lily off to preschool, then Kate and I finished getting ready, and rushed out the door, barely on time.

She was singing "Let It Go" from Frozen as she went.

When I picked her up from school, she was complaining that she had twisted one of her two loose teeth, and that it had hurt. She hadn't felt up to doing any more than swing slowly, at afternoon recess. I suggested that when we got home, we could numb it up with a bit of ice, and then maybe see if it was ready to be pulled out. She seemed just a bit freaked out about the thought. Anyway, when we got home, she decided to eat an apple, based on multiple stories she'd heard about loose teeth coming out in apples... only to find out that the tooth was too wobbly to bite into said fruit. I gave her an ice cube wrapped in a clean washcloth, and suggested that she put it on the gum near the tooth, to see if that made it feel better, and suggested again that after she'd had the ice on it for a bit, that we should perhaps pull it, so it wouldn't bother her, anymore. She seemed a little more receptive this time, however...

... she accidentally "nudged" the tooth out, with the wrapped ice cube. She was very excited about the tooth, and the expected visit from the Tooth Fairy. In fact, this morning, I found this next to her bed:

Anyway, we scrambled to get dinner cooked and eaten, because Katy's school was having Family Science Night, which she really wanted to go to (partly to see how many people she could find to tell about her tooth - she was even telling complete strangers we encountered on the way there, and back). Anyway, the girls had lots of fun with the various experiment tables set out, and more than one person commented to me (without knowing my background) that Kate has the makings of an engineer.(: We even one one of the family door prizes.

(Lily is carrying their “loot”). This is what they got:

Please excuse the shine from the flash. Anyway... I think we're going to have some fun with this, this summer...
