The Wee Hours, with a Wee Girl

Once again, I'm up late, with a sleepy baby on my lap, with only my knitting and the computer for company. Fortunately, I don't require a lot of company. I actually quite like having just a bit of quiet time more or less to myself. It is something I rarely get, these days, as a parent of two small children. Fortunately, while I'm introvert enough to desire a certain amount of time alone, I'm apparently resilient enough that my requirements as to what constitutes time alone are not especially strict (sitting up with everybody else in the house sleeping is sufficient for me - which is good, since I'm having trouble remembering the last time I actually went anywhere unaccompanied, or was alone in the house), and I weather not getting my time alone fairly well, for quite some time, when necessary. Ask any parent, though - when you have a toddler in the house, you seldom get to even shower, or go to the bathroom alone. Right now, though, all is quiet. Arazyr and Kate are asleep (I presume - they are in bed, and I can't hear anybody), and Lily is snoozing in my lap. Hopefully, this time she'll stay asleep for a little while, enough so that I can get her in her bassinet without her waking up fussing. It is kind of nice to hold her while she sleeps, once in a while - I've decided that I recommend holding babies while they sleep, at least once a week, if you have one. There will come a time when they won't sit still long enough to hold them much, while they're awake, and it is good to savor the time. Not to mention that babies do well with lots of snuggles. I could probably continue on the "mushy mommy" note for quite some time, but I don't think I want to be up THAT late, so I'll put it to rest, for now.

While parenthood seriously cuts into my knitting time, I've still been managing to get some things done, which is good, as my Finish-it-up-itis/stashbusting urge continues. So, update...
1)The red lace socks I was working on for a friend got finished nearly two weeks ago, and were delivered today. They were intended for her to wear in the hospital, when recovering from having her baby, who was supposed to be born this week. However, he decided he didn't want to wait that long, and was born last week, before his mommy and I could manage to meet, for me to present them. Ah well... "the best laid plans", and all that...
2)I've made quite a bit of progress on the lace scarf, especially considering that last Saturday morning, it dawned on me that I'd been misinterpreting how to do one of the techniques involved, and therefore ended up ripping out everything I had done, and starting over. I'm a bit more than half done, now. At the rate I'm going, I suspect I'll be at least close to done, by the end of the week.
3)I haven't touched the Cabled Monstrosity lately...
4)...but, I have a new pair of plain socks on the needles, using some unrecorded stash sock yarn that I got at a local store closing, a few months ago. These are now my main travel knitting.
5)I started a "scrapghan" as a stash-busting project, to use up a whole bunch of worsted-to-aran weight acrylic I've had lying around practically forever, after finding out the limits of the things for which it works well. I've been using virtual dice to determine the color of each row, and I'm tying the ends together, to make fringe, as I go (I'll trim it even, when I'm done). I think I'm liking how it is coming out, so far. I've only got a couple of inches done, but this is very much a long-term project. It is all garter stitch, so it is my "totally brainless", at home project.

So, I have four official works in progress, one of which I expect to finish soon. I also hope to finish the first of the "travel socks" this week, so I can get going on the second one, and get it to a good, low-concentration point for the Palladium Open House, this weekend. It should be interesting - I'm one of the few people that shows up at these things, with a baby, and knitting. (:

Well, I think it is time to test the depth of my littlest girl's sleep...
